The highlight of the afternoon, after the excitement of the Fin Whales in the morning, was to take to the water aboard the Zodiacs for a 90-minute cruise amongst the Ice.
I think the photos speak for themselves!
Perhaps the only note of explanation needed is that we were seeing two types of ice; the first is true sea ice that forms when the sea freezes and the second is freshwater ice that is formed when ice calves from a glacier and forms icebergs. This ice is thousands of years old.
The piece of clear ice that you will see at the front of the Zodiac in the photos is freshwater ice.
